Parasite Control & Prevention

Year-round parasite prevention is essential to protect your pet from internal & external parasites.

At Morrisburg Animal Hospital, we are here to help you protect your pets from harmful parasites such as fleas, ticks and mites. Although small in size, these pesky creatures can cause immense discomfort, pain and serious health problems in your furry family member. Preventive medications are the best weapon against parasites and our team can help you decide which formulations will be best suited to your pet’s unique needs.

How can you tell if your pet has fleas and/or ticks?

You can actually see ticks and fleas on your pet. If your pet has fleas, it may appear like black pepper on their fur. Ticks look similar to skin tags and they get larger in size as they gorge themselves on your pet’s blood. Aside from seeing them for yourself, you can also watch our for some common symptoms that your pet may be displaying like: repeated licking and scratching, hair loss, redness and bleeding.

Do pets need parasite protection in the winter?

Absolutely! Did you know that fleas, ticks and other pests can survive even in the wintertime?! If they make their way into your home, they can live and reproduce indefinitely. You can save yourself a lot of expense and effort by having your pet on a parasite prevention medication all year round. Pets who often go to groomers, kennels or daycares are particularly susceptible to wintertime pests.

Do indoor cats need parasite protection?

Yes! We are happy to address this common misconception. Even if you live in a high rise condo and your cat has/will never step foot outside your doors, parasites can get to them by way of you, other pests, other animals and other people that come into your building.
