Microchipping for Pets
Accidents happen to even the most careful of pet parents. All it takes is a split second and your furry pal can slip out without you noticing. The good news is that by getting your pet microchipped, you can increase your chances of being reunited with them if they ever get lost.
What is a pet microchip?
Microchips are permanent IDs that are placed inside your pet. They contain vital details about your pet and your contact information. If your pet is lost and then found by a veterinary clinic or animal shelter, the microchip can be scanned. Then those who found your pet can contact you and you can be reunited. Note: Microchips are NOT like a GPS. They do not provide the real-time location of your pet’s whereabouts.
Is microchipping safe for my dog or my cat?
Absolutely. The microchip is small – similar in size to a grain of rice. We make a tiny incision to insert it just beneath your pet’s skin, usually in between their shoulder blades. For your pet, it will feel like a regular injection or vaccine shot. They usually do not need to go under anesthesia for the procedure.
