Dental Care Services for Pets

Did you know that 85% of dogs and cats over the age of one suffer from periodontal disease? This is an infection and the inflammation of tissues around their teeth. It is painful and can lead to other health problems. The good news is that periodontal disease and other conditions that can affect your pet’s teeth, mouth and gums can be easily prevented with regular dental cleanings and exams. Call us today at 613.543.2812 to learn more about how we can keep your pet’s pearly whites in tip-top shape.

What are the signs of dental problems in cats and dogs?

Some of the most common signs of dental issues are actually very similar in both dogs and cats. Bleeding, bad breath, swollen gums, difficulty chewing, loose teeth, bumps in their mouth and blood on their toys/water bowls are all warning signs that you should be aware of.

What types of canine and feline dental services are offered at your hospital?

As a full-service animal hospital, some of the dental care treatments that we are able to perform are dental cleanings (scaling and polishing included), dental radiographs, teeth extractions and more. Please call us to learn more about our offerings and current rates.

What happens during a pet dental cleaning?

First, we put your pet under anesthesia. Then, we perform a full dental examination looking for any abnormalities in your pet’s teeth, mouth and gums. Dental X-rays are then conducted followed by extractions if necessary. We then remove any plaque and tartar. Finally, the teeth are polished, followed by an antibacterial agent and a final rinse.

How often should I brush my dog’s/cat’s teeth?

It may sound like a challenge but your pet’s teeth should be brushed once per day. At the hospital, we can show you how to do this yourself, and we can also provide useful tips to get you started on a tooth brushing routine. Note: Please DO NOT use human toothpaste or brushes, as they can be toxic and harmful for your pet!
